Is Elon Musk Buying Twitter Really the Worst Possible Thing?

Did you know that Elon Musk didn’t even make Tesla? He bought it! Also his dad owns an emerald mine, firmly putting the “self made man” concept to rest. Yes, Elon Musk is a tool. He’s a richy-rich who made money from the hard work and suffering of others, a capitalist through and through. Tesla’s are sort of cool, but are also shoddily made and their time at the top is limited, the moment legacy car companies make competitive and appealing EVs Tesla will fall hard. But is buying Twitter really the worst possible thing to ever happen in 2022? Not by a long shot.

Got to Love Having Curry for Lunch

Curry is the best. Definitely one thing we’re lucky with in the UK, there’s no shortage of curry houses. My town alone has 17 that turn up on JustEat,
never-mind all the famous ones in Leeds and Bradford. But you see, the one issue with Indian takeaways and restaurants, they typically don’t open till after 5pm, they’re a tea-time affair. What if you want curry for lunch?

Months Spent Applying for PhD - Not Getting Funding

From October 2021 to March 2022 I have been dedicated to applying for a PhD, specifically for one at York University with Dr. Fiona McNab as supervisor. The project was titled “Understanding the Limitations of Working Memory and the Role of Attention Using Games” and was intended to look into unique mechanisms found during distraction in delayed and maintenance conditions. The four studies in the project would have used games participants would play.

I secured a place, but regretfully did not get selected for the two studentships I applied for. I did not get short-listed for iGGi, however I did manage to get to the final interview with the departmental studentship, though there were only six places for the fourteen people interviewed and sadly I was not among the chosen six.

The Peterson Question

I think I was a bit old to get sucked into the Jordan Peterson cult of personality, thankfully. I’ve enjoyed his psychology lectures where he uses Disney as examples and I believe he helped get a lot of young men interested in the field. I think he was once a much needed voice of debate against certain people we are expected to blindly follow without question (ironic I know), but in recent times it has become clear he’s squarely sided with the right-wing and rather than engaging in intelligent debate he clearly has a political (mostly financial - anyone else notice his tour tickets are about £150?) agenda.

Why I am more excited for Augmented Reality than the Metaverse

With Zuckerberg recently popularising the term ‘Metaverse’ it is a bit easier for people to discuss the upcoming virtual space we might one day be spending most of our time in. Of course it’s not a new concept, the idea has been around for decades and many virtual worlds already exist (MMO’s, Second Life, VRChat, PSHome and more). But with improvements to VR headsets we are near normalisation of such concepts and acceptance in the mainstream. The next decade or two is going to be huge for VR

Welcome!

Hello! Thank you for visiting my website. I recently graduated from Leeds Beckett University with a 1st in Psychology. I intend to use this blog as an excuse to showcase academic writing, research and general interest stuff.

I am interested in memory, cyberpsychology and games research. The site is a little barebones at the moment, but please check the research tab to find my dissertation on Problematic Internet Use and Impulsivity. I'll be writing more soon!
